Interactive Spring Carnival

Celebration of Inspire Innovation Adds to Annual Fun

Spring Carnival is always a big campus festivity.

This year, it’s even bigger and extends well beyond the Pittsburgh campus with the launch of we.cmu.edu - which will allow the university community to join the fun anytime, anywhere.

In addition to the traditional favorites — Buggy, Booth, Scotch ‘n Soda (marking its 75th anniversary) — we also celebrate the sprint-to-the-finish of the successful Inspire Innovation campaign.

The campaign, which publicly launched in 2008, has several notable achievements that are already benefiting the university: an even stronger global alumni and volunteer network, increased financial resources for education and research, and a greater level of visibility for the university worldwide.

This year’s Carnival will also be easier than ever for making lasting memories.

At each welcome area across campus, there will be interactive celebration walls featuring we.cmu.edu and fun photo opportunities. The University Center will feature a “green screen” photo booth with digital backdrops of campus. There, people can take their photo with friends and family, upload it to the celebration website, and receive a free printed photo to take home.

Carnival-goers can visit any of the four Welcome Areas — the University Center and tents at Midway, the Fence and Frew Street — throughout the weekend, where they’ll receive a free gift bag and be able to take, share and post photos to we.cmu.edu. Alumni, as well as students, faculty and staff at CMU’s global locations, can participate by adding their own photos and comments to the site.

And, for those on campus, a new smartphone app also will provide augmented reality at popular campus locations. The free app — which can be downloaded on your mobile device by visiting we.cmu.edu — will showcase fun facts and videos about various campus landmarks and the Inspire Innovation campaign.
